Song and Lyric Copyrights.

Copyright exists the moment a piece of music, a song or lyric is committed to any form of tangible media. For example; recorded on a CD or other recording media including hard drive, written, printed or in manuscript form. However, once you have created your work and believe it has a commercial value then it is important you take appropriate steps to protect it by ensuring rightful ownership has been documented and all rights have been attributed to the legal copyright owner.

Copyright law provides protection for literary and artistic works, giving authors the ability to control the exploitation of their works. The law of related rights provides similar protection for the creative contributions of those involved in presenting works to the public, such as performers, phonogram producers and broadcasters.

These rights are provided by national laws in individual countries. International treaties serve to forge links among different national laws, ensuring that creators are also protected in another country than their own. The treaties do not overrule national law, but require the countries that join them to grant some specified minimum rights, and to do so on a non-discriminatory basis.

A certificate of registration provides solid proof and acts as legal evidence to support the named claimant as the registered copyright owner of the work as described upon the said certificate. (as from the date of registration). This unequivocal evidence can be used in a court of law to support your claim should a dispute or an infringement occur. We also retain backup copies of your work that are time stamped as from the date of registration..

A Single Song Usually Contains Several Copyright Categories:

These rights include the following;

  1. The Music / Melody:
  2. The lyrics:
  3. The Arrangements:
  4. The Production:
  5. The Performance:
  6. The Artwork / Logo: (On the sleeve or album cover or CD).
  7. Your Band or Stage or Performers name.

All of these collective copyrights are included when registering complete songs or music only tracks.
